MIA’S  SON-RISE PROGRAM  WEBSITE

Welcome to Mia’s site. Mia is a six years old sweet little girl. When she was three years old she was diagnosed with Autism. Like many other autistic children she has difficulties to look at people, communicate and create relationships with them. She also finds it very difficult to learn new things.
To overcome her difficulties we are trying to help her by running our own home based SON-RISE PROGRAM.

Let me tell you more about The Son Rise Program.

It all began after Raun Kaufman son of Barry ("Bears") Neil Kaufman and Samahria Lyte Kaufman was diagnosed with autism at 18 months old. Although advised to institutionalise him because of his "hopeless, lifelong condition," the Kaufmans instead designed an innovative home-based, child-centred program in an attempt to reach their little boy.

They worked with him very intensely, often seven days a week up to 12 hours a day. After three years he was able to attend a mainstream school. Their unique program, which marked a complete departure from existing methods of treatment, transformed Raun from a mute, withdrawn child with an IQ of less than 30 into a highly verbal, socially interactive youngster with a near-genius IQ. Bearing no traces of his former condition, Raun graduated from an Ivy League university and went on to become the director of an educational centre for school-aged children. He currently teaches families and individuals at the Autism Treatment Center of America™.

Son- Rise Program is a home based, child centred program that sees Autism as relational, interactivity disorder.  The program places parents as key teachers, therapists and directors of their own programs. The main focus is on social development. Creating strong and meaningful relationship with the child is very important because it is a ‘platform’ for all future education and development. Respect, deep caring, love and acceptance are important factors that have greatest impact on child’s motivation to learn. Joining the child their exclusive repetitive behaviour rather than prohibiting and discouraging them is the way how to create stronger relationship but also to open the door to enter their world. Genuine interest and participation in what is important to the child also teaches the child interpersonal skills that autistic children lack.
